American “pop surrealist” painter and installation artist Kenny Scharf worked with designer Kim Jones OBE on a series of colourful prints for Dior Men’s Fall 2021 collection.
For this collection, Kim Jones found inspiration in the New York of the 1980s after stumbling across books on Kenny Scharf — a contemporary of Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring best known for his cartoonish, surrealist paintings. “That downtown scene of the early 80s is something I’ve always been obsessed about” the fashion designer says.
The result is a cosmic collaboration. “I liked the idea of it being quite spacey,” Jones says. “I’m always interested in the future.”
The collection was presented digitally on December 8, 2020.
