Sculpture meets painting under the creative conception and direction of Jason Hallman and Stephen Stum. Artist duo STALLMAN (Hallman and Stum) merge talent and vision to create multifaceted sculptures and dissolve the boundaries of what is possible, turning the ordinary into the extraordinary. Inspired by patterns and gradients in the natural world, they bring a playful dialog to each sculpture. The two work swiftly to arrange each strip of canvas precisely: the final product is usually a mix of freestyle and planned design.
Folding hundreds of strips of canvas and layering color, Stallman is pioneering a new technique. This body of works is titled Canvas on Edge, where the cut edge of the canvas creates an elevated line drawing and, when seen at an angle, fields of color emerge as your perspective of the piece changes, creating a spectrum of color. They use reflecting light, pigment, and layered structure to multiply the hues and tones of each sculpture.
