ZuZi (b. 1985, Ankara, Turkey) is a contemporary painter with a background in Sociology.
ZuZi explores the concept of 'Bilocated Presence.' "For centuries, portraits were about a person sitting in a room looking at a painter. But today, nobody is just 'in a room.' We are always split between the physical room and the digital world."
In ZuZi's works, the subject’s eyes diverge and refuse to settle on a single focal point. This creates a visual metaphor for the modern condition of being split between physical reality and digital connectivity. ZuZi’s work documents this new evolutionary state. She renders these subjects with bold, cartoon-inspired figuration and distinct warmth, using expressive paint.
